KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Disney on Ice now has the OK to run at the T-Mobile Center later this month and in February after an initial announcement was made prior to health department approval.
The Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department on Wednesday signed off on the ice skating performance’s “guest wellness enhancements,” which include pod seating, face coverings for attendees older than 2 years of age, maintaining social distancing between parties and increased sanitation efforts, according to a news release.
A spokeswoman for the health department said the event got its stamp of approval after staff submitted an amended waiver request, meeting "sufficient standards for health and safety."
In particular, Disney on Ice rearranged the seating layout to reduce the maximum number of attendees and to ensure no groups would be seated in the middle of a row.
The event now also plans to staff more employees to monitor areas such as halls and restrooms to avoid congestion. Souvenirs for the event will only be sold online, though attendees can pick up their order at the arena.
Disney on Ice initially announced on Dec. 29 its string of shows that will run from Jan. 28 to Feb. 7. The next day, KCMO Councilman Eric Bunch said Disney had not submitted its wellness plan to the health department.
