UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Keylon Campbell, 37, of Kansas City, Kansas.
A man was found dead outside his townhome in KCK early Saturday morning.
Police were called to a disturbance in the 1700 block of Meadowlark Court shortly after 3:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located a black male in his mid 30s dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
"At this time we're just gathering more information, checking with some of the neighbors here for any witnesses or that kind of thing to help us develop any leads for the case," said KCK police officer Patrick McCallop.
Police say they do not have any suspect information.
Hours after the shooting, a KCK native held a rally in the hopes of stopping acts of violence like the one last night.
"At least somebody is trying, you know you can never stop trying to make an effect on somebody’s life or a community somewhere,” said organizer Travis Qualls.
Last night’s homicide was fresh on the minds of people there.
"I pray for the family. Violence is never a good thing and I am just praying for the family, violence is never a good thing,” said Tangela Hyatte.
A Wyandotte County deputy also spoke with people in the community. Organizer Travis Qualls says she's unsure if rallies like hers will end bloodshed, but says it's better than sitting back and doing nothing.
"Like I said if I got to do this 20 times until people actually get it, maybe I can help save a life,” said Qualls.
Anyone with any information is encouraged to call police.
