KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One dog died in a Sunday afternoon apartment fire in Lenexa, Kansas.
Fire crews from Lenexa, Overland Park and Shawnee arrived just before 3:30 p.m. at The Retreat at Woodridge Apartments, 8818 Hauser Drive.
Police helped evacuate the three-story building, according to a Lenexa Fire Department news release.
One dog got out of the burning apartment on its own.
Firefighters pulled the second dog out, but it did not survive.
Crews knocked out the fire in about 20 minutes.
The fire was contained to the first floor apartment.
The American Red Cross is helping three residents.
No word on what caused the fire.
