KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wanted: Good homes for cute animals.

Starting March 2, KC Pet Project will be in "Love Changes Everything" mode with its special $35 adoption sale.

The shelter reached capacity after taking in 43 animals on Feb. 28. Normally, the shelter says they receive 30 animals a day. Over 110 pets have come into KC Pet Project since Sunday, including a dog who had 13 puppies when she arrived at the shelter.

"It's really tough to be at capacity like this because it requires a lot of resources," said Tori Fugate, director of marketing and communications for KC Pet Project. "We are hiring for more kennel people and depending heavily on volunteers right now. Our staff is working overtime to take care of all of these animals."

This weekend, KC Pet Project is offering their Love Changes Everything Adoption Event where pet adoptions will be $35 from Friday, March 2 through Sunday, March 4. Some exclusions apply to the special including puppies, kittens and specialty breeds. This is a partnership with Petco stores as they work to celebrate shelter pets.

The shelter said they are depending on the community to help free up more space as they expect more animals to come in.

"We could not be the life-saving shelter like we are without the support of our community," said Fugate. "And this weekend we are hoping a lot of people will want to open up their hearts and their homes to a shelter pet."

KC Pet Project told 41 Action News when the weather gets warmer more pets show up at their facility and that is why they hope people will come in and find that sweet animal to take home.
