KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 100-year-old building on the Donnelly College campus in Kansas City, Kansas, will be demolished in the next few weeks.

The Donnelly College Tower building, formerly the Providence Hospital, at 18th Street and Barnett Avenue will be torn down as part of the college’s master plan.

The plan calls for green space and a campus quad in the area where the former academic building now stands. This summer, Donnelly College completed construction on its new 72,000-square-foot academic building.

Providence Hospital was built in 1920. A smokestack on the north side of the property, now located behind the college's Community Event Center, will remain on campus as “a nod to our past and a physical representation to the community that this corner will remain a beacon of hope as it has for so long,” the college said.

Stained glass windows from the original building, which were part of the chapel, also have been removed and will be installed in the new Blessed Seelos Chapel.

The building recently completed an abatement stage, and demolition will occur “over the next several weeks,” according to Donnelly College.
