INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Eastern Jackson County Courthouse, located at 308 W. Kansas Ave. in Independence, Missouri, closed Thursday morning due to a water main break.
According to a news release from the Jackson County Court system, the water main break affected the electrical areas in the building. Employees were sent home at 11 a.m. as crews worked to fix the break.
Signs were taped to the door alerting people to the problem, but many stood around in disbelief.
Greg Howard was hoping to have his license reinstated. His court date has been pushed back until Feb. 15.
"If I don't have my license back, I might do some time, lose my job," said Howard.
A spokeswoman for the Jackson County Court system said the water main break is outside the building. Crews were still working to repair it as of Thursday afternoon.
The court will resume operations Friday, and the courthouse will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the news release.
