KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The person elected to fill North Kansas City’s Ward 4 council seat has declined the position, the city said Thursday.

Denise Lambert was chosen by voters to fill the seat Fred Steffen will vacate on June 16.

Lambert declined the role for personal reasons, according to a statement.

“I am sorry that I need to submit this notice declining to serve on the City Council, but there have been recent changes in my personal life that I believe necessitate that I take this action,” Lambert is quoted in a news release from the city.

North Kansas City Mayor Don Stielow will appoint a qualified person to the vacant seat, pending full council advice and consent.

The new council member will serve until April 2021, when the seat will again be up for election, the city said.
