KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person died and a second was hospitalized after an explosion at an Excelsior Springs auto repair shop on Wednesday.

According to the Excelsior Springs Police Department, emergency crews were called just after 1:15 p.m. to Hart's Auto Repair shop on reports of a fire.

On arrival, crews located the blaze. The fire was out by 4 p.m.

Excelsior Springs Chief of Police Gregory Dull said that due to the potential for flammable and explosive substances at the shop, surrounding homes were evacuated.

Images captured by "Excelsior Citizen" showed a massive fire at Hart's Auto Repair.

No word on what caused the explosion.
