OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — The Overland Park Police Department is preparing to say goodbye to one of their own.
Wednesday Officer Mike Mosher, the father and husband who died last Sunday in the line of duty, will be honored for his dedication.
"He deserves to be honored for his sacrifices," said Overland Park Police Officer Tara Williams.
Those who served by his side and are staying by his side until he will be laid to rest.
"From the time we took him to the hospital, the honor guard has been on guard duty with him. Someone stays with him at all times," Williams said.
Williams is one of those officers.
"Over the next week, there will be someone with him constantly. There will be at least two people," Williams said.
She said she knew Mosher, so this one hits close to home.
"He was funny. He was very funny. He always made you laugh. Most of my stories are mostly silly or something crazy he did," Williams said.
Williams said it is a true privilege to guard her friend and department hero.
"We will make sure he is never left alone until he is laid to rest," Williams said.
Mosher will be laid to rest on Wednesday in a private funeral.
