Families feel despair waiting for answers in metro killings

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Many homicides in the metro remain unsolved and under investigation, leaving families and friends heartbroken and communicates worried about a killer on the run.

One of those cases still with no suspect involve December Htoo, a 15-year-old teen from Myanmar.

"December was very fun loving, big heart, very fun to be around," said Zach Davies, the wrestling coach at J.C. Harmon High School where Htoo attended.

Htoo died on Nov. 17, 2017 while trying to provide for his family.

"A 15-year-old student from a KCK area high school working in the laundromat and unfortunately was killed in a robbery situation," said Detective Kevin Boehm, Kansas City Metro Crimestoppers.

While police were at the scene, down the street, Davies was waiting for Htoo to get to practice.

"About 3 that afternoon, I got a text from a student here at the school and it just kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't believe it and didn't want to believe it," said Davies.

A year later, Davies and others are still mourning the loss.

"We definitely miss his presence. I mostly miss the smile and just being around him and having him with us," said Davies.

To honor him, players and coaches put his initials on their team clothing.

Police are hoping someone comes forward with answers for Htoo's family.

"Put yourself in their situation. If you had a family member that was killed in a tragic incident, wouldn't you want somebody to come forward?" said Boehm.

Htoo's teachers and friends are similarly concerned for closure.

"In situations like this, you want some closure, but the fact nobody has been found and no one has come forward has been pretty hard to deal with. For his family, we just want closure."

If you know any information about this incident, you are asked to contact police or Crimestoppers at 816-474-8477. There is a $8,000 reward for a tip that leads to an arrest.
