KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dylan Hill’s family said they don’t know how they’re going to celebrate the holidays without him.

It won’t be a celebration for Hill’s parents and wife, but they must to continue on for his kids, ages 3 and 4.

Almost a year after Hill’s shooting death, the family is again bumping up the reward money for information about his death to $26,000.

Hill’s father, Randy, said his son was lured out on Dec. 11, 2018, to East 80th Terrace and James A. Reed Road.

Police said he was shot while inside his truck, which rolled to a stop near a light pole. The family decorated that pole with his pictures and a cross.

The family isn’t sure who he was meeting or why he was in the area. Neighbors heard gunshots and were able to relay information about the shooting, which the family hopes will help the investigation.

Hill lived in Lee’s Summit and wasn't known to spend time at the location he was killed, a residential area one block from the Park Meadows apartments.

Randy said Dylan was a great father with a huge heart, but he said that may have been his downfall.

"Dylan trusted everybody," Randy said. "He thought everybody was his friend and, if they weren't, he wanted them to be. I think in the end that's what got him killed."

Randy said police won’t tell him much about the investigation, but they assure the family that this isn’t a cold case.

“He was a good dad and a good son and I miss him every day, and I'll never give up, never,” Randy said.

Anyone with information about what happened to Dylan can call the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8477).

The reward now stands at $26,000.
