Family of recent KCMO homicide victim holds vigil

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The family of a Kansas City, Missouri, man who was fatally shot last week called their relative's death “senseless.”

“Kansas City, we need to wake up,” said Derrick Hill, the cousin of Pierre Hill-Williams. “Brother against brother. Start loving each other more than what we're loving each other today.”

Hill-Williams was killed July 2 at a Conoco gas stationnear 35th Street and Prospect Avenue. His family held a vigil Sunday in his honor.

Hill said that his cousin has two children who now will grow up without their father.

“He was loved out here,” Hill said. “It's just not nobody out here that just wasn't doing nothing in life, trying to do nothing. He's loved out here. You got a lot of love.”

Nerville Awuh, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connect to Hill-Williams’ death.
