KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs fans actually got to open the boxes of Kansas City Chiefs championship gear this year.
At the Academy Sports location in Overland Park, fans were already buying gear less than an hour after the team hoisted the Lamar Hunt trophy at Arrowhead Stadium.
One customer told her fellow shoppers that she planned to buy 50 championship shirts.
Outside the store, cars lined in the parking lot waiting to get in.

"The design is nice," said Chiefs fan Ivory Peppers.
Peppers can finally celebrate this big win.
"Every year, we have a tear drop because we didn’t make it,” Peppers said. “This year, we have tears of joy because we made it, and I’m going to Miami.”
The lines wrapped around the entire store for fans, some spending serious money, like Christine Stockton, who paid $831.86 for her gear.

"And I will do it over and over again because the Chiefs team is what I’m about," Stockton said.
This is the shirt they'll wear cheering on the Chiefs a couple weeks from now.
"Let’s get our gear let’s represent because we’re not going to be able to go to Miami but we’re going to be supporting our team here," said Dominick Love.
It's a team they'll support with their cheers and what they'll wear.
"I’m buying them for all of our coworkers because that’s what it’s about,” Stockton said, “and we are going to the Super Bowl.”
"We got to bring it home, that’s what it’s all about is their heritage about the Chiefs and this city, added Peppers.
