KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An investigation into the fire at the Waldo Heights Apartments that displaced more than 30 families continued Friday despite winter weather.

On Tuesday, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent a national response team to Kansas City, Missouri to assist local authorities in the investigation.

According to ATF Kansas City Field Division Public Information Officer John Ham, the Kansas City Fire Department covered the apartments with a tarp Thursday night.

On Friday, the tarp was removed and the investigation continued. Authorities will continue to concentrate the investigation to the third floor.

According to Ham, the roof caved into the third floor of the building making it difficult for investigators.

The departments will spend several days clearing debris on the third floor to look for evidence.
