For Sale: Out-of-state company purchasing vacant KC Land Bank homes

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For the last couple of years, the Land Bank of Kansas City has been experimenting with new ways to repopulate abandoned homes -- including selling homes for as little as a dollar.

And now, companies are coming to Kansas City to specifically buy Land Bank homes.

Family First Funding is a company based out of New Jersey but decided to buy 11 homes from the Land Bank. Their goal is to find homeowners with low credit scores, who would not typically be able to buy homes, and give them an opportunity.

"A lot of these people they've missed a payment, they've had unfortunate situations that have hindered them from maybe purchasing. This is going to open up the doors for a lot of people," said Trevor Lorance of Chartwel Realty, who is working with the company.

The Land Bank currently has 3,000 vacant lots and 130 homes. Last year, they sold 465 properties, most of which included homes.

However, they are expected to receive 125 properties in the coming month.

"We need as much help as we can," said Anderson. "Anytime we can open up another avenue and maybe get another crowd in here to buy and fix up these houses, it's a good thing."
