KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City police are still looking for at least one suspect that was involved in a shootout Saturday afternoon.
Investigators say two people were shooting at each other at the BP Gas Station near the 3400 block of Red Bridge Road.
A stray bullet traveled roughly half a mile to a home on Southern Hills Drive, broke through a window and hit 4-year-old Alijah Jones in the arm.
"He was more calm than everyone else though," said his aunt and guardian Stephanie Burrell. "He had blood everywhere so I'm not seeing where he's been hit."
Burrell said she and her mom take care of Alijah, who is expected home from the hospital on Sunday.
The 4-year-old is putting on a brave face.
"He was asking if everybody else was okay," said Burrell.
Craig Brady was near the gas station when the shooting started.
"I went in there and then all of a sudden that guy and girl in that Honda Odyssey van pulled in. Next thing I know I see the guy running across the front door and I heard shots,” said Brady.
Burrell said at the victim's house, several children were in the living room.
"My nephews were all in here. They saw him get shot, screamed, called 911, got my mom, all of that," said Burrell.
The boy's grandmother and Burrell rushed him to the hospital.
“First there were shots, and then they stopped for a second... and then there was more shots and I saw them,” said Brady.
An off-duty officer detained a suspect but the other is still on the run.
Police said what happened is still under investigation.
