KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. announced Sunday that he is recommending $3 million in property tax cuts for the county.

The announcement comes during a time where county residents are upset with how drastically property tax assessments rose this year.

According to a press release, White is proposing a one-time reduction of approximately 16 percent. The release said that homeowners with a $100,000 home value who paid $133.25 in property taxes in 2018 would pay $111.64 in 2019 under the cut.

"Since becoming County Executive, I have committed myself to ignoring the noise and focusing on doing what is in the best interest of the County. Quite simply, that is why I am proposing this substantial tax cut," White said in the release. "My proposal will put $3 million in the pockets of Jackson County taxpayers."

Information given by the County Executive's office said that the proposed cut would still generate enough revenue to meet the needs of the 2019 county budget.

The Jackson County Legislature will have to approve the proposal.
