Funeral for fallen Leavenworth County deputy corporal held at Children's Mercy Park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Loved ones, former colleagues and others gathered Friday to celebrate the life of Deputy Corporal Daniel R. Abramovitz, who died in a crash involving a school bus.

Abramovitz, 60, who was a 26-year veteran for the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office had his funeral at Children's Mercy Park.

The U.S. Honor Flag was also in Leavenworth today honoring Abramovitz.

On Oct. 30, Abramovitz was driving a an unmarked sheriff's vehicle near 211th Street and McIntyre Road shortly before the wreck.

A driver and one student suffered minor injuries following the wreck.

Abramovitz, who was set to retire next year, died on the scene.

In his final days as a deputy corporal, Abramovitz worked in the Investigations Division and focused his efforts on sex crimes and crimes involving children.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, as well as three adult children and two siblings.
