KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A giant construction crane is on site at Schlitterbahn in anticipation of the demolition of Verruckt.
The waterslide was the site of a deadly incident in August 2016 that killed Caleb Schwab.
Earlier this month, two waterpark maintenance workers were acquitted of lying to investigators looking into maintenance practices on the ride before the incident.
A company spokeswoman confirmed they have put up the crane as part of the "next stage of the deconstruction" of the ride. The spokeswoman said the process will still take some time but didn't provide an exact timetable.
A spokesman for the Unified Government told 41 Action News it has received an application for permits to demolish the structure and work is supposed to start Nov. 1.
