KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly ordered all U.S. flags in state buildings, grounds, and facilities to be flown at half staff to honor Republican state Sen. Bud Estes who died Saturday morning.

“I was deeply saddened to hear of Senator Estes’ passing,” Kelly said. “Senator Estes had a long history of serving the Southwest Kansas community, his legacy will live on through his public service. I extend my deepest sympathies to his friends and family during their time of mourning.”

Estes had represented the Kansas Senate District 38 since 2017. He also served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2014-2017.

He also served as the Mayor of Bucklin, Kansas from 1976-1990.

Flags will be flown at half staff beginning Saturday Feb. 13 until the day interment for Estes.
