RIVERSIDE, Mo. — Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens says 97 percent of Missourians will receive a tax break under his proposal.

Gov. Greitens was in Riverside, MO on Tuesday promoting his tax plan to workers at the Farathane Manufacturing Plant.

He's proposing tax breaks for individuals and corporations. He said his plan is designed to help working families, not special interest groups.

Under Grietens's plan, the corporate tax rate in Missouri would drop by almost one-third from 6.25 percent to 4.25 percent.

The individual tax rate would be reduced from 5.9 percent to 5.3 percent.

"The government, we give a discount to some corporations just for paying their taxes on time. My belief, my belief is that instead of giving some people a bonus for doing what everybody is required to do, instead, we should give everybody a tax cut and that's what we're doing," said Gov. Greitens.

Gov. Greitens called his plan responsible claiming that it will not break the budget and it will not make sure we're not passing on debt to our children.

"What we're also doing is we're putting in a workers-first tax cut so that hard-working people in Missouri can keep more money in their pockets," Greitens added.
