Greenwood Alderman Marvin Megee is in political hot water after using what some consider to be a racial slur.

The comment came during a Greenwood Board of Aldermen meeting last Tuesday in Greenwood. Megee was in a heated debate with a Parks board volunteer. Mayor Levi Weaver tried to stop it. That's when Alderman Megee used the three-letter slur in a sentence directed at Mayor Weaver.

After the statement, the mayor called for alderman Megee to be removed from office.

"The Mayor is calling me a racist and that is simply not true," said Alderman Megee. "What I was saying is, 'You're not going to go all non-workplace appropriate on me, are you?'"

The mayor said Greenwood is in the process of hiring an outside attorney to take actions to have Megee booted out of office.

"I don't understand how that can possibly be in the context in which it was utilized, plus we also have other instances where he has referred to me as a 'home boy.' He's referred to me as a 'thug' via email on social media," said Weaver.
Alderman Megee said he is not worried because impeachment requires a unanimous vote of the board of alderman.

Greenwood is a town of just over 5,000 people bordering Lee's Summit's southeast side.
