KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group home for intellectually and developmentally disabled people caught fire around noon on Saturday in south Kansas City near 98th Street and Madison Avenue.
Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief Stephen Seals said three people were inside but everyone got out safely and no one was transported to the hospital.
Neighbors, however, feared the worst.
“I just was worried," Carol Huhs said. "I don't want to lose my neighbor. I want him to be safe."
Huhs got her wish, but she still worried about the cause of the fire.
“He (the owner of the house) didn't know how it happened, but he was running his smoker and he said his smoker was on low,” Huhs said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
