Hackers target Kansas nuclear power plant

Posted

The U.S. Government says Russian hackers might have been targeting U.S. nuclear power plants with cyber-attacks.

Among the targets— the company that runs the Wolf Creek power plant, just outside of Burlington, Kansas.

“It draws attention I guess, even for a little place like us,” said Shayla Befort, who lives and works down the road from the plant.

According to the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, the cyber-attacks did not penetrate plant controls.

Instead, in a joint statement the agencies said, “there is no indication of a threat to public safety, as any potential impact appears to be limited to administrative and business networks.”

“There has been absolutely no operational impact to Wolf Creek,” the plant said in a statement.

Wolf Creek is located outside of Burlington, about 100 miles southwest of Kansas City.
