HARRISONVILLE, Mo. - The Harrisonville Police Department told 41 Action News that though parts of the lower dam broke away, crews worked to stabilize it.

Police said on Tuesday morning there was a "strong possibility" of the lower dam of Harrisonville Lake breaking.

Lt. Chris Osterberg with the Harrisonville Police Department said the parks department plugged a big portion of the hole.

The dam is no longer at risk, officials said.

The Harrisonville Police Department issued the notice urging everyone to avoid the area. Those evacuated can come return home, officials said.

Police asked people to avoid the area of the city park from Sycamore Street to Shady Lane on Lexington and Ash Street to Shady Lane on Bradley.

41 Action News crews are headed to the lake. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
