Saturday (April 16) kicked off the first day of the Brookside Farmers’ Market. Vendors brought their freshest produce to the 63rd Street and Wornall Road location as hundreds of patrons came to get local and organic vegetables, plants, meat and eggs.
“This is awesome,” said Brookside Farmers’ Market Manager Susan Brill. “I’m very excited about the market opening today. We’ve had a great show of people today and wonderful produce.”

Susan Cohen doesn't just enjoy the farmers’ market because it is organic. She also likes meeting the farmers and learning about her food.
“The people and the farmers and the vendors and everybody can tell you about what they’re growing and when it’s coming in if something is not here. And I just love the fresh food,” she said.
Cohen bought rhubarb with which she plans to make a pie.
She and her husband were also looking for eggs.
“My husband likes duck eggs, and I like regular eggs and fresh eggs," she said. "Very good — different from the eggs you find in the grocery store.”

“We are the most organic market in town,” Brill said. “All of our vendors are either certified organic or they are following organic practices, and so it is an awesome place to come and get very healthy food.”
The Brookside Farmers’ Market will be open every Saturday morning until Nov. 19.
