OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — An Overland Park man has social media to thank for finding out what happened to his wife.
David Lanter said his wife, Carol Ann, was running some errands when he got a call that she was headed to the hospital by ambulance with a traumatic head injury.
When he arrived to an Overland Park Aldi, he learned she had been found lying injured in the parking lot.
"She didn't know what happened, and she couldn't give me any information," David said. "I thought maybe she got mugged, maybe she had a stroke."
David said Carol Ann ended up having a severe skull fracture, which required a craniotomy due to a large hematoma or bleeding in her brain.
Desperate for answers, David posted on Nextdoor asking if anyone saw his wife driving nearby or knew what happened to her in the parking lot.
Within a few hours, he received a message from a woman who said her son was riding his bike when he saw Carol Ann collapse. He then told an Aldi worker who called 911.
"I was so appreciative of her," David said. "I told her that her son is truly my hero. He's my angel at this point."
David said Carol Ann has a long road to recovery ahead of her, and doctors still are not sure what caused her to collapse.
However, he is grateful to the woman who saw his post, her son, and the dozens of others offering their support during an already difficult time for everyone.
"The outpouring was truly another good example of Kansas City kind," David said.
