Hyde Park neighbors remain on high alert following an abduction Friday in their neighborhood

Posted

Kansas City, Missouri police are warning Hyde Park residents to be on alert for dangerous criminals.

A woman told police she was abducted and sexually assaulted Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. while she was sitting in her car. A man got in the car and told the woman to drive to ATM's and withdraw money.  She said the man then sexually assaulted her. The attacker got out of the car and is still on the loose.

Hyde Park neighbors are being careful; but they are not simply cowering in fear. Neighbors are taking action to make their neighborhood safe.

Ruth Schmidt lives in Hyde Park and admits she's afraid. She's taking personal precautions; but she is also helping the neighborhood association come up with ideas to make their neighborhood safer.

"We are considering adding surveillance cameras, and having neighborhood watch patrols or hired security patrols," Schmidt explained.

Homeowners and renters in Hyde Park were surveyed about paying for added security and Schmidt said most were willing to contribute to make their neighborhood a safer place to live.
