KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fans headed to Kauffman Stadium once baseball season begins will have to take an alternate route in some areas.
Beginning Monday, the Missouri Department of Transportation will close the ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to eastbound Blue Ridge Cutoff for pavement construction. It's part of the Interstate 435 and I-70 construction project.
"What we're doing is replacing bridges and reconfiguring the ramps in the area to be a lot more efficient and handle traffic for this major corridor for the area," said James Pflum, MoDOT's resident engineer for the project.
As crews close the eastbound ramp to Blue Ridge Cutoff, they will begin placing dirt in the area and complete part of the outer ramp system that is currently being built.
"What drivers will be doing is taking eastbound I-70, you'll exit at 31st Street and take U.S. 40 from where it intercepts Blue Ridge Cutoff on down the road, and then just get on like they normally would there," Pflum said.
Overall, the project should be completed by end of the year, and the I-70 ramp closure should reopen sometime this summer.
Crews ask that drivers headed to a Kansas City Royals game pay close attention and give them plenty of space to work.
"We just encourage people to look at traveler information, maps and things like that and really plan their route and put the phone down and don't be distracted in the work zone," Pflum said.
