UPDATE - We have completed our transmitter project and both KSHB-TV and KMCI-TV are operating at full power.
STATUS, MAY 3, 2019 | As of 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, KSHB-TV is transmitting at the maximum allowed power by the FCC of 1 million watts. KMCI-TV will be at the same power in roughly three weeks.
STATUS, APRIL 19, 2019 | Crews have completed the replacement of our antennas and transmission lines. We're hopeful of clearing the tower of construction equipment and testing the new antennas as soon as April 24.
If testing goes well, we anticipate going on-air with KSHB's new high-power transmitter by May 1, and KMCI's high-power transmitter by June 1.
STATUS, APRIL 9, 2019 | Thanks for watching KSHB-TV and KMCI-TV. We are currently preforming work on our tower during the day. This work may affect the range and quality of the broadcast signal. Your television may not be able to pick up our signal during this work - do not rescan during the day. We return to normal power when the work is done for the day, typically between 5 and 7 p.m. Thank you for you patience during this upgrade process.
Frequently asked questions
I was able to receive your station, but now it says “weak signal." What happened?
If you lose our signal this may be due to an ongoing project on our tower. During daylight hours, we have a tower crew working on our tower, and depending how close they are working to the antenna, we need to lower power to maintain a safe work zone for them.
When are you going to be done with the work?
We are expecting to complete much of the work over the next couple weeks, weather permitting. Once the tower work is completed, our signal will start to stabilize in your area.
Do I have to rescan every time I lose your signal?
No. Once you have scanned for our signal and have found our stations, 41 and 38, you don’t have to rescan again. If you rescan while we have gone to “LOW POWER,” you will remove the channel from your TV and will be unable to add them back until we have increased the power. The only way to get Channel 41 or 38 back is to rescan at a later time in the evening when we have increased the power output. This will usually be in the evenings around 5 to 7 p.m.
Why are you changing frequencies?
Due to FCC mandates, KSHB and KMCI have been required to change the frequency we broadcast on. Since we were required to change the frequency, viewers that use an antenna to watch 41 or 38 programming may have lost our signal. To help resolve this situation you will need to rescan your television or set top box. For further information please visit http://www.tvanswers.org/what.asp
I can pick up one station but not the other. What can be done?
If you have rescanned and are still unable to get 41 or 38 programming, we have good results when viewers have readjusted their antennas. We recommend moving the antenna higher location or closer to a window, then try to rescan your TV again.
