A Kansas City man is locked up inside the Jackson County jail after his ex-girlfriend found his cellphone taped to the bottom of her car, according to a police report.

Darren Knesel is charged with aggravated stalking and for violating an order of protection.

Court records show Knesel's ex-girlfriend previously went to police and filed a personal protection order against him.

However, she told police it didn't stop him from leaving notes on her car or following her.

According to the documents, the woman claims Knesel snuck up behind her while at a gas station and asked, "Why are you doing this to me?"

Burton Kelso, a technology expert says, it's now easier than ever for people to be able to track your every move.

"Unfortunately, stalking is a problem, and technology just makes it a lot easier for people to find you," Kelso said. "All of the smartphones that are out on the market today have some sort of tracking technology."

While Knesel is accused of strapping his phone to his ex-girlfriend's car, Kelso said, it's not difficult for someone to track you through your own phone.

"You can easily find someone's GPS location with an app in the smartphone," Kelso said. "Make sure your smartphone is locked at all times so you don't have strangers looking at your phone or putting things that don't belong on your phone."

Knesel admits to police that he taped his phone to his ex-girlfriend's car and violated the protection order.
