KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The designer of the waterslide that 10-year-old Caleb Schwab died on was brought to the Wyandotte County Jail Friday afternoon.
Days after his initial arrest in Dallas, John Schooley, 72, arrived to the jail in handcuffs and was booked into the jail early Friday afternoon.
As of 5 p.m., Schooley had not yet posted a $500,000 bond.
Schooley is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Schwab.
According to the indictment, Schooley and his partner, Jeff Henry, lacked the appropriate education and credentials to build a safe slide.
Court documents also state Schooley and Henry knew the ride, called Verrückt, was dangerous for young children.
When the slide was being built, Schooley and Henry initially stated there would be an age restriction for riders of at least 14 years old.
However, according the indictment, Henry and Schooley removed the age limit one day before the slide made its debut at Schlitterbahn.
