KANSAS CITY, Mo. — LeGend Taliferro's mother told the 41 Action News Investigative Team on Friday that her son had a positive relationship with the man accused of killing him.

Ryson Ellis, 22, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 4-year-old LeGend.

LeGend was sleeping when a bullet entered his bedroom from the outside of his father's apartment in June, according to police. LeGend was struck and killed.

When asked about LeGend's relationship with Ellis, Charron Powell, LeGend's mother, said LeGend "loved him."

Powell told the I-Team she became suspicious of Ellis after her son's death. She didn't say why, but added she trusted Ellis before the shooting.

Ellis is expected to be arraigned via video in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the end of the month.

An extraditions officer said Ellis could return to Kansas City earlier if he signs a waiver clearing Jackson County to pick him up.
