Jackson County court hearings rescheduled

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Circuit Court officials are making arrangements to hold certain court cases at different locations while repairs to the courthouse close the building through Friday.

The closure already did not affect operations at the Jackson County Courthouse in Independence, the Family Justice Center downtown and the Criminal Justice building downtown.

Some Court hearings that had been scheduled at the closed downtown courthouse are being moved to Kansas City’s municipal court at 511 E. 11th Street.

Given the complexity of the rescheduling, the court is planning to post notices on the doors of the downtown courthouse and the court’s website.

“We are sorry for the disruption this is causing to the litigants, attorneys, public and our employees,” Presiding Judge David M. Byrn said in a release Monday. “We will continue to do the best we can in providing justice to those who have accessed the Court for help in solving their disputes. Unfortunately, we do not have enough courtrooms in other locations to move all of the cases that are scheduled at the downtown courthouse.”
