KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Johnson County Community College culinary students practiced their skills and gave back to the community on Thursday.

They prepared a special breakfast for homeless clients at Hope Faith Ministries, which is located at East 7th Street and Virginia Avenue.

Instructors planned the meal knowing students in the pastry-baking program would get something meaningful out of the experience.

"It lets them see an experience — maybe a group of individuals, people, clients at Hope Faith Ministries — that they would probably never run across, never ever talk to, never ever interact with," culinary instructor Damian Fraase said.

The students prepared dishes like cheesy grits souffle with corn tuile, thyme biscuits with sausage gravy, and chicken asparagus quiche.

All of the students have been in training for two months in the program.
