A Johnson County man is accused of burning a woman's home just hours after she moved out.
Glen Hatchel showed no emotion and had few words for a judge during his first court appearance.
Hatchel faces multiple charges, including arson and violating a protective order.
Detectives said he purposefully set a Johnson County house near 165th and Metcalf on fire over the weekend.
Lucy moved out of the house just hours before the blaze. She asked us to conceal her identity because she still lives in fear of her ex-boyfriend, Hatchel.
The Johnson County district attorney charged Hatchel with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property in a September 19 incident. Lucy told police that Hatchel choked her and threatened to kill her.
"He needs to stay in as long as possible to get the help he needs because that's the only way he's going to get it, if he's in custody," said Lucy.
Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe said more charges could follow.
"Investigators are continuing to look into the case, and if the facts warrant those additional charges there's no reason why we wouldn't file those," said Howe.
Lucy said she's afraid to return to a home she once loved, and she will continue to live in hiding in hopes of never seeing Hatchel again.
Hatchel is being held on a $200,000 cash bond in a Johnson County Jail.
