KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City metropolitan area is now included in a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 3 a.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, up to 3 inches of snow could fall in the area during the advisory, which runs through 6 p.m. Friday. In addition to the snow, winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour, creating near blizzard-like conditions.
In the latest blog update, 41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak says the snow could make Friday morning's commute hazardous.
The snow should begin early Friday morning, lasting through the afternoon, according to 41 Action News meteorologist Wes Peery.

We may not be under a Blizzard warning in #KC, but it will still pretty much feel like one tomorrow!

The biggest impact from the storm will likely be strong winds and blowing snow during the morning commute.
This storm will be different than the New Year's Day storm that hit the Kansas City area on Jan. 1, Peery said. For one thing, the gusty winds will cause the snow to accumulate unevenly, with large drifts in some places and dustings in others.
This snow also will be easier to shovel because it won't be covering a bottom layer of ice, Peery said.
