KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A vigil Friday at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Kansas City, Missouri was organized by the Kansas City chapter of the national organization, Students Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Caroline Bennett, a Sophomore at Park Hill South High School said the vigil had two goals.
"We are mourning the loss of students killed at the high school in Santa Fe, Texas and all the students who have been killed at schools across the country," said Bennett.
This year there have been 23 school shootings in the U.S. where someone was hurt or killed.
Students, community leaders, and parents who attended and spoke at the event called for changes in gun laws so that students in school don't have to worry about being shot. Community leaders are encouraged students to vote and if they're not old enough to vote, they need to influence adults to vote for candidates who support their cause.
