KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City mayoral candidates Jolie Justus and Quinton Lucas on Thursday each received an endorsement from one of their colleagues on the City Council.
Councilman Jermaine Reed said in a tweet that he will endorse Justus for mayor.
Reed, who was eliminated from the mayoral race after receiving 6 percent of the vote in April's primary election, called Justus a “consensus builder.”
“She doesn’t pretend to have all the answers; rather she listens thoughtfully, collaborates with all stakeholders, completes the task for which she signs up, and truly seeks to unite our communities,” Reed said.

In a news release, Councilwoman Katheryn Shields announced that she will endorse Lucas, saying that he "understands the needs of citizens in every part of our city."
"I have represented Midtown for nearly three decades, and I am endorsing Quinton because I know he will preserve our historic neighborhoods, fix our streets and sidewalks, and build progress in every part of our city," she said in the release. "Quinton Lucas has the energy, the focus and the determination that our city needs to embrace the future.”
Justus and Lucas will square off in the general election on June 18.
