Kansas City Councilwoman Andrea Bough's mother died Tuesday night from COVID-19.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The mother of Kansas City, Missouri, Councilwoman Andrea Bough died Tuesday night from COVID-19.

Councilwoman Bough shared the news of her mother's death on Facebook and Twitter.

"Tonight, my mother passed away from COVID-19,'' according to a statement on her Twitter account . "This virus continues to ravage. Stay vigilant and hug your loved ones (at least those in your COVID bubble)."

Bough also posted the hashtag #WearAMask.

Dozens of friends offered condolences on Bough's Facebook page.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas posted a statement on his Twitter page.

''I am heartbroken for the Bough family and all those impacted by COVID-19," Lucas wrote. "My condolences to Andrea, Steve, Ashley and Grant and all those grieving to this terrible disease. Please. Please think about keeping all in our community safe."

Bough was elected in 2019 to the 6th District-at-Large position.
