KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City officials and KCATA  as well as are taking steps to improve pedestrian safety.

There was a joint public meeting Thursday night at Alphapointe  with Kansas City,  KCATA and the Missouri Department of Transportation.  MoDot presented results of it's study which suggested options like adding bridges  and underpasses to 71 highway. None of the proposals have been approved or funded.

Kansas City Reisdnets at Thursday's public hearing also heard results and proposals from the study completed by Kansas City and KCATA.

KCATA is  adding additional bus terminals along Prospect Avenue next year. Kansas City planners and KCATA want to improve safety and walkability by repairing sidewalks and crosswalks and adding bike trails

Shawn Strate, KCATA Planning Manager, said the changes will not come quickly. Strate said the current study is focused on pedestrian safety and access to bus stops. The Prospect MAX bus rapid transit improvements will be completed in 2019, but any modifications to 71 Highway will require additional study and take much longer to complete, depending on federal and state funding.
