KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), Lodge #99, announced its endorsement of mayoral candidate Quinton Lucas Thursday.
The Kansas City FOP has 1,600 members, and Lucas’ campaign said with the endorsement, he is the only candidate with the full support of the public safety community.
Kansas City FOP President Brad Lemon said in a news release Lucas has continually made efforts to keep the community safe and make connections with police.
“Quinton is from this community and for this community. He listens to our officers, is the only candidate to build relationships with officers through KCPD ride-alongs, and recognizes that nothing is more important than the safety of our community,” Lemon said.
In the same release, Lucas said working with law enforcement is key to making a difference in communities.
“We don't need more task forces that put reports on a shelf. We don't need blue ribbon commissions to talk circles around an issue. We need as Mayor who will commit to taking our city off the top ten most dangerous cities list. I will do just that and I know that requires working with and listening to our police,” Lucas said.
Last week, Lucas was endorsed by the International Fire Fighters Local 42.
Lemon and Lucas are scheduled to speak at an 11:30 a.m. press conference at the Kansas City FOP lodge at 527 W. 39th St., Ste. 201.
