KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A 43-year-old Kansas City man was convicted Monday of sexually assaulting and killing his 18-year-old daughter.

A Jackson County jury found Jerry Bausby guilty in the March 21, 2016, death of Daizsa Bausby. He was convicted of second-degree murder, sodomy, incest and sexual abuse.

Jackson County prosecutors said Bausby collected his daughter from their home and took her to the Four Acres Motel on Hickman Mills Drive, where he sexually assaulted and killed her.

Investigators said he suffocated the teenager. Motel cleaning staff found her body in one of the rooms.

Prosecutors said DNA and forensic evidence established Bausby as the prime suspect in his daughter's death. Video also showed him entering and leaving the hotel room without returning.

Members of the Bausby family were in the courtroom, including the victim's youngest sister, who testified for the prosecution during the trial, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

He will be sentenced Sept. 20.
