KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Graduation seniors in the Kansas City, Missouri, School District will get to walk across a stage in front of family and friends.

The district, in a message to students and their parents/guardians, said in-person graduation ceremonies will be held the week of July 20.

"The overwhelming preference of our students and families includes a semblance of live, in-person graduations when it is safe to do so,'' according to the statement. "We have taken this feedback to heart, as we know this time of celebration and accomplishment is an important milestone in our students lives.''

Each high school's leadership team and district leaders are working on details, including when, where and how the ceremonies will be held.

The plans will depend on health restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic

"We will continue to adhere to health and state officials recommendations as we navigate suggestions for events in July," according the to statement. "This includes the possibility of limiting guests, among other details. Those details will continue to be refined and we will share specifics when they are finalized.''

The district also is working on alternatives to in-person graduations celebrations.

The district will post updates on its website.
