KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police said one person was in custody after a shooting Saturday afternoon at 39th Street and Prospect Avenue.

Police said Monday that a juvenile was in custody and considered a person of interest in the shooting, which left one person injured.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, two males approached a vehicle in the parking lot in the 3900 block of Prospect Avenue. An unknown male shot at the vehicle, and a female exiting a nearby store was struck by gunfire. On Monday, police said she was in critical but stable condition.

The first suspect, whose age is unknown, accidentally shot the other suspect, a 16-year-old male, police said. He was taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot.

The two victims in the vehicle left the scene, but police contacted them a short time later. Officers also canvassed the area for the other suspect but did not locate him.
