KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With another blast of arctic air moving in, many people in Kansas City are trying to find ways to stay warm.
Parts of Kansas City were still covered in sheets of ice on Friday.
Without a break in the weather, people are learning to work around the cold.
“I saw the sunshine… I figured it was okay to come out,” said Alberta Hagen who was waiting for the bus in Hyde Park.
Hagen said she’s been waiting at bus stops for years… and has learned how to deal with this kind of weather.
“3 pairs of gloves. I’m not going to forget that. I’ve got my winter boots here. They’ve got fur all the way around them and into the bottom too so I’m real warm,” said Hagen.
A few blocks over, Heidi Whitehill took a break from work to walk her dog.
“And she just had a haircut so she’s wearing the sweater,” said Whitehill.
Despite the chill in the air, Whitehill said she and her dog enjoy days like this.
“I love it. I prefer this weather,” said Whitehill.
But not everyone feels that way. The temperatures caused some problems for Tiago Donato while he was riding his bike to work.
"Some of the shifting stuff is kind of frozen and stuck. I couldn’t even free it with my hands so I’m just going to have to go with the easy gear all the way,” said Donato.
A slower gear means Donato’s bike ride will take a little longer, but it's not the cold air that worries him.
“The only thing that’s dangerous is sometimes the drivers… and the ice on the road,” said Donato.
Something that a worker was trying to remedy down the street.
Whether they have to be outside, or they choose to be, many Kansas Citians don’t seem to be too bothered by the cold.
