KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Opening day is just one week away at "The K," and you don't even need to be a sports fan to head out to the ballpark and see what the Kansas City Royals have been cooking up this offseason.

As the new season starts, fans will see a winning menu. On Thursday, the Royals unveiled seven new concession items ranging from brisket-topped tots to burrito bowls to grilled and fried chicken sandwiches.

Kauffman Stadium Executive Chef John Woychick and his team spent the offseason finding out what's new and working to bring it to Royals fans. Woychick said their goal is to stay at the top of culinary trends.

"It's all over the place in a good way," Woychick said, referring to the menu.

In past years, the Royals were known for a few foods that were way out in left field. This season, Woychick said they're going back to the basics.

"Lets do something that everybody likes, make it fantastic, so every day we're selling a tremendous amount," Woychick said.

Even after revealing several new menu items Thursday, the Royals are still keeping one item a secret: a new burger to be served at Bullpen Burger in right field.

According to Woychick, it's a throwback yet "Instagram-worthy" burger.

"It's just iceberg lettuce, lettuce, tomato, onion and sauce, I mean that's it. Simple and plain," Aramark General Manager Troy McKenna said.

The Bullpen Burger is predicted to be the fan favorite this season, but there will be something for every fan at the field. Even vegan and gluten-free fans are covered with a 100 percent plant-based "brat."

Fans can get a taste of the new menu next week at the Royals' home opener against the Chicago White Sox, scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
