KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Zoo announced on Tuesday two purrfect additions to its cat family.
Alya, a sand cat, became a first-time mom with the birth of her kittens roughly six weeks ago.
The kittens – a boy and a girl – weigh just more than one pound and are active and healthy, according to a Kansas City Zoo Facebook post.
“They are great climbers and play a lot with each other and with their mom,” the post said. "They love to chase her tail!”
Sand cats, native to Northern Africa, are considered at a conservation status of “least concern,” according to the zoo, because their population is stable in Africa.
The kittens are not yet available for public viewing due to colder temperatures.
