KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An Iola woman was visiting Kansas City for the weekend when someone broke into her car, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry and massage equipment.

But Savannah Hannum said all of that can be replaced. The most valuable thing the thief took was a broken camera with a memory card inside.

It doesn’t sound like much, but the card holds precious and never-downloaded memories of her daughter as a newborn.

"She had the best smile. Every day she was in my life was the best day of my life," Hannum said of her daughter, Reason.

She named the blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby after a character from her favorite book. After just four months with her family, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome took Reason away.

"She was sleeping, and we woke up and she was gone," Hannum explained.

This fall marks the three-year anniversary of Reason's death, which makes the loss of the memory card even more painful for Hannum.

"You can't get that stuff back. I can't make new memories with my daughter," she said.

Hannum's car was broken into at a parking garage on Walnut in downtown Kansas City. She told 41 Action News she is in the process of moving and had forgotten to remove items from her car.

Kansas City Police said they're reviewing surveillance footage and trying to catch the thief. Hannum just wants whoever is responsible to return the memory card.
