KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lenexa man wanted in connection with a shooting in Blue Mound, Kansas, was arrested Saturday by Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents after a brief car and foot chase near Interstate 435 and Wornall Road.

Leawood police spotted a vehicle driven by John J. Butler, 35, around 6:20 p.m. in the area of Roe Avenue and College Boulevard and a pursuit began when he refused to stop.

KBI also received assistance from the Kansas City, Missouri; Lenexa; Shawnee and Overland Park police departments during the chase, which ended when the suspect’s truck crashed in the grass between the eastbound I-435 and the Wornall Road entrance ramp.

Butler — who is wanted for attempted murder, stemming from the Linn County shooting on Friday — fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. KBI apprehended him after a brief search with assistance from a police K-9 unit. He was booked at a local KCPD station and was expected to be transferred to Jackson County Jail.

The shooting victim was transported to a Kansas City area hospital and was expected to survive.
